7/18/2013 - Construction Complete at Plant Vogtle Nuclear Training Facility
Designform provided programming, architectural design, structural engineering, civil engineering, interior design, furnishings selection, audio/visual selection, construction contract administration, and project management services for this project.
The Operations Training Facility is designed to house employee training and operations for new simulator Units 3 & 4 at the Plant Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Facility.
Designed through multiple collaborative workshops with end-users and training managers, the Operations Training Facility provides for enhanced learning through the layout of classroom, simulator and shop areas. Spacious common areas are designed to reduce stress through effective use of daylighting using high clerestory windows. The arrangement of space in simulator suites improves student interaction with key componenets, as well as to facilitate instruction and proper testing of methods employed. Placement of viewing galleries for simulators provides instructors with unobstructed views of students throughout the simulator's use.
Consideration of sustainable building initiatives was factored into every aspect of the design. The facility is also strategically placed in proportion to adjacent wetlands, ensuring little disruption and minimal harm to wetlands and wildlife.
Simulator spaces are designed in conjunction with Westinghouse throughout the course of the project to confirm spaces met all Westinghouse AP1000 simulator guidelines.
The 76,674-square-feet facility is also designed in accordance with NEIL and NRC guidelines for new nuclear facilities.
