5/18/2009 - Designform Receives Award for New Eastern Health Center
Birmingham based architecture and interior design firm Designform, LLC, was the recipient of the 2009 Overall Design Architectural Award for the New Eastern Health Center, from the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Commercial Real Estate Development Association - Alabama Chapter. The award was accepted by Craig Rogers, AIA, and Justin Rogers of Designform at the NAIOP Awards Luncheon, held May 14, 2009 at The Club.
The New Eastern Health Center was designed for the Jefferson County Department of Health to help better serve the health care needs of the eastern portion of Jefferson County while minimizing environmental impact. Several sustainable methods were utilized in the project, including clerestory and high-glass windows that were strategically placed on interior walls to allow light to penetrate inwards throughout rooms and hallways; lighting controls used to reduce the amount of energy consumed during operational hours; and high-efficiency mechanical units paired with a well-insulated building envelope help maintain interior comfort, as well as reduce overall energy costs.
It is estimated that the facility would have achieved the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver rating had LEED certification been pursued.
Designform's Craig Rogers, AIA, served as principal-in-charge of the project, and Justin Rogers served as project manager. Birmingham based Golden & Associates, was the general contractor for the project.
